Can Social Networks Kill Search Engines?

September 11, 2008 By: Newbornbusiness Category: Social Marketing 1 Comment →

How many online marketers noticed that Search Engines are not enough, and how can social networking websites help to increase the number of hits to their website more than Search Engine Optimization, (SEO)?

Social Networks can bring many visitors and potential clients to business owners’ sites in a short period of time. They have become a place for business professionals too, now, many online marketers conquer Social Communities because they became sure that they will find their target consumers there.

Some online users, who lead to Social Networks success, took Social Networks as the TRUSTED place where they find their friends, ask for their help solving a problem, recommendations for certain car brand, how to apply makeup perfectly (Women), or even how to deal with their children.

Simply, They can know all what they need to know, but from a place that depends on friends’ previous experiences and more trusted than Search Engines that depend on (encyclopedia, Google, Blue Book, Yellow Pages, classified ads, etc…). In a nutshell, in social networking, “What You Know Will Depend On Who You Know”.

Social Networks can also help you discover the things you didn’t know you wanted. By navigating through an endless number of pages and interests of other online users (friends) in the community, you will be able to hit some useful information somewhere you didn’t even think you will want to know, not just solve a problem or finding things you were looking for like Search Engines.

Search Engines are no longer the sole dominant of web traffic and information resources, Social Networks made many important changes in the map of “SEO” and forced Search Engines not to work alone for serving online searchers.
BUT this doesn’t mean at all that Social Networks can go alone! A Combination of Search Engines and Social Networks can develop a positive sense of helping people online as well as increasing the number of meaningful hits to your website.

Social Bookmarking Pitfalls That Can Kill Your Business

September 08, 2008 By: Newbornbusiness Category: Social Marketing 3 Comments →

The idea of bookmarking certain page or website you have liked and found interesting for further reading and to reduce the labor you face trying to remember your preferred locations has been developed.

Now, almost all online business owners use social bookmarking and social networking websites to promote their business by not only saving interesting pages but also sharing these pages with an endless number of online users who might find it interesting as well and share with other friends and so on…

For all those online entrepreneurs who apply Social Marketing techniques to promote their business, here are some important pitfalls, which they should avoid in order not to cause harm instead of benefits to their business:

1- Social Marketing plans take time to mature; people hates self-promoters or persons who are greedy. Hence you need to have a high degree of patience while committing to such strategy. Keep away from asking people to click your links from your first posts, believe me your business will never still alive for long time.

2- Never indulge into Spam Schemes; it is more than difficult to avoid getting black listed as a Spamer in social bookmarking websites. You will need to established an authoritative status in a community or become a power-user then you will be acceptable to promote and share your business with others.

3- Discover the community; some people register their accounts in social bookmarking communities without knowing the community they are dealing with. They start posting articles about (SEO) and (Google Adsense) in a community that doesn’t has people who can be interested in such topics at all. The most astonishing thing is that they wait for their posts to become popular!

You should always believe that the one community perceives things differently than other communities. Take a look at the site and community before you start, know the rules, know what goes hot and what doesn’t, know what other users find interesting and what they don’t.

4- Don’t Submit while people are sleeping; knowing the times when people are awake surfing the community and submitting during them is very important. Most people surf social sites in the morning or around lunch time during their break at work, so this is the best time to submit your posts and remember that you should always capture people’s attention.

5- Don’t just Submit and Forget; keep observing your posts and be up to date with what is happening every while. Interact with the community, if someone comments on a post then respond back to them whether the comment was positive or negative. Try to start the conversation and make good relationships with other users.

Social bookmarking is a great way to identify different sites on a similar topic. It is now seen as another form of search engine optimization, and good sites try to be highly placed and recommended on social bookmark sites. SO don’t loose such effective weapon in your business promotion battle.

Will the removal of SU 200 friends limit really work?

August 26, 2008 By: Newbornbusiness Category: Social Marketing 6 Comments →

We all, who are interested in social media sites, heard about StumbleUpon’s intention to lift the 200 friends limit. Finally Stumble Upon has listened to its users who suffered a lot from constantly checking their friends to make sure that they are receiving good stumbles related to their interests. And others who also suffered from standing helpless in front of all their fans who always insist on the add as a mutual.

SU paid some attention to the call of removing the 200 friends limit and stated that they are going through just few days to remove this limit and to separate the social & content aspects of friendship on SU. So you will be able to “subscribe to someone’s favorites without necessarily becoming their friend, and become someone’s friend without necessarily seeing their stumbles”.

All of this is great and some Stumblers can see it as a long-waited new option that can facilitate their stumbling mission and make it more easier and enjoyable. They see that it will be great to follow stumbles from certain stumblers who they find their content valuable, relevant to their interests, and really want to know about. And simply opt-out of stumbles of certain friends whose interests do not match theirs.

But here is a fact that there are other Stumblers who have a wide view of this new option suggests that a Thousand friends is quite a lot to manage and this option will cause “too much” complexity, and subsequently more time spent juggling this aspect of the site, with the ability to see 1000 on the what’s new tab if you have lots of friends.

They also believe that separating friends , subscribers and their functions will result in new arguments and feuds, it will not go so smoothly for some Stumblers; it will be a new source of issues when people want to be friends instead of subscribers and vice-versa.

Some Stumblers also claim that it will be a deadly mission for someone to share a certain interesting page with his/her friends, they can spend a whole day and a night sending good stuff to their unlimited number of mutual friends. They agree that this is going to be horrible and suggests that either StumbleUpon changes its “Sharing” system to be easier and gain a new option to send pages to large number of friends at one time, or devise a new technique to share pages with friends.

So, after this over view on the upcoming change that will happen in StumbleUpon system and the removing of the 200 friends limit, we should come to an important question that “Will the removal of SU 200 friends limit really work and benefit the SU community? Or it is just a kind of propaganda to grab the eyes and spread the words about the long-waited change? The few coming days will answer”

Social Networks can really spread the words, so how can you deal with them?

Social networks proved their effectiveness in online marketing different fields. Whether you are trying to promote certain product or a service, Social Networks will be the best method to cling to and start spreading the words about your business.
If you are an online marketer who tries to drive flows of traffic to your pages, you have to think about dealing with social networks and try to bookmark some of your posts from your own websites to the major social media websites.

You need to let the online community knows about your business, social networks give you the ability to communicate with an endless number of online users and share with them whatever you want depending on their interests, you should select the best online community that cope with the type of posts you will submit and determine your target users who will be interested in your posts, so that they will do the rest of the work for you, yeah believe it or not, they can do the rest of the work for you by promoting your submissions and share them with their friends.
But always remember that you will need to find the people who are really seeking what you present and will be eager to know about every thing you introduce.

Pay some attention for your friends; another thing to consider if you want your friends to share and spread your posts is that you have to do the same for them. Always make sure that you give something before you think to take, and ask the others to give you. It will work as an incentive for your friends to share your business because they know that you will do the same for them. But never stop here, you should always thank and praise them for the great help they offer you, simple and sweet words can do all the hard work.

Just do it, from now on never waste any time without making profit using social networks, every MINUTE counts. Never be afraid that you will not be welcomed, or you will be blocked by social networks. Online users are very sociable, but as I said before, you should always determine your target users and work for them.
